Welcome to Galphay, a charming village nestled in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just 4 miles west of Ripon
With its picturesque village green, historic roots, welcoming pub and proximity to fabulous walks and attractions, Galphay is the perfect escape. Whether your guests seek relaxation or adventure, they’ll discover something special here.
A Brief History
Galphay gets its name from the Old English galga (“gallows”) and haga (“enclosure”)—suggesting its distant past. It first appears in records of 1189 when Fountains Abbey owned the land.
Once a hamlet in the parish of Azerley, Galphay has grown steadily into a tight-knit village of around 60 houses and roughly 200 residents.
Today, the heart of the village is its green — with a flagstaff and seat— a perfect hub for community events and lazy afternoons
